30' S2 9.2A

THIS S2 9.2A IS A DONATION TO THE MAINE ISLAND TRAIL ASSOCIATION

The Maine Island Trail Association accepts donations of boats to support stewardship of Maine’s wild coastal islands. Working with professional brokers, we will convert donated boat into funding that supports MITA’s mission!

"The S2s were well-built. Whereas other production companies frequently cheapened or upgraded models from year to year to find marketing niches, S2 made boats to sell near the high end of the production boat market, and kept the quality at a consistent level" ~ Practical Sailor S2 9.2A Review

Natty Boh't had a hull survey in November of 2019 and the conclusion was "overall impression of the vessel is that she was well built and the hull is in good condition". This survey is available upon request.

Electrical System

"The 110 volt AC shore power appears to be servicable and the inlet is mounted outboard on the starboard coaming. The electrical breaker panel is mounted on the galley bulkhead and was not activated.

The 12 VDC house system is powered by 2, 12VDC AGM batteries properly boxed and covered in the starboard seat locker and controlled by a 3 position Perko battery switch mounted at the Nav Station which powers a DC Panel with volt meter and 10 labeled breakers." ~ Bunnell Marine Consulting Survey November 14, 2019 Inspection

Tanks

"A reported 18 gal. painted steel fuel tank is installed under the cockpit. The deck fill is properly marked and mounted in the cockpit sole. The other tanks were not seen." ~ Bunnell Marine Consulting Survey November 14, 2019 Inspection

Engine

"The Yanmar Marine Diesel model 2QM develops 15 hp @ 2800 rpm... It is raw water cooled through a wet exhaust with fiberglass water-lock muffler and exits through the transom. All fuel lines, electric fuel pump and Racor filter were in serviceable condition. The Kanzaki reverse gear turns a 1" SS shaft through a traditional bronze stuffing box, fiberglass stern tube and external bronze strut with cutlass bearing. Underwater gear consists of a three blade, RH propeller with streamline zinc. Access to the engine and stuffing box is tight and adequate.

The Engine is controlled by the panel mounted to starboard in the cockpit with electric starting, light and audio alarms and shutdown. The engine was not started and appeared to have a newer raw water pump and Balmar 60 amp alternator." ~ Bunnell Marine Consulting Survey November 14, 2019 Inspection

Spars and Rigging

"Her painted (black) aluminium mast and boom had not been removed and the sails were still bent on the head stay and the main had sail cover installed."  ~ Bunnell Marine Consulting Survey November 14, 2019 Inspection

Interior

"The interior sleeps 4 -6 and is constructed with teak veneer plywood bulkheads, solid teak doors and teak trim and varnished teak and holly sole.

Most forward is the chain locker followed by the V berth with fill in and four lockers under. A door is to port leading to the head and a door leading to the main salon.

An overhead hatch and port holes provide good ventilation and light. Next aft to port is an enclosed head with Vacuflush toilet with Poly waste talk with deck pump-out or overboard discharge and vanity with sink. Two hanging lockers are to starboard.

The main salon is next aft with port and starboard settee berths with storage outboard. Next aft to port is an outboard facing Nav Station with 12VDC electrical panel and movable table. Most Aft is a quarter berth. The companion way steps (2) are attached to the removable engine box which forms the top step on the center and leads to the cockpit.

The "L" shaped galley is to starboard with a two burner propane cook top, top loading ice box outboard and SS sink aft..." ~ Bunnell Marine Consulting Survey November 14, 2019 Inspection

Deck

"The center cockpit is self bailing and protected by the high coamings and dodger supported by SS bows. An Edison pedestal steering with compass and SS destroyer wheel and brake is aft in the cockpit. There is port and starboard seating and the starboard side provides access to several systems and storage. The engine panel and single lever control are mounted in the starboard coaming outboard of the pedestal." ~ Bunnell Marine Consulting Survey November 14, 2019 Inspection

Hull

"Her hull is a solid fiberglass laminate reinforced stringers and full interior fiberglass liner. The 4000# lead ballast is internal. Her fiberglass rudder is supported by bronze rudder post and is partially protected by a fiberglass skeg.

The topsides appear to be original off white gel coat with faded gold sheer stripe and faded blue boot stripe. The bottom has blue anti fouling paint. All are in Fair to Good condition." ~ Bunnell Marine Consulting Survey November 14, 2019 Inspection

Surveyors Comments

""NATTY BOH'T" was seen out of the water and there were no Sea Trials. The spars stepped and sails still bent on as mentioned above. Her over all exterior condition of the topsides and bottom appears to be in average for similar vessels of her age and class.

The topsides and bottom were percussion sounded with 6.5 oz. plastic tipped hammer and no delamination was noted, however there was normal wear and tear with few scratches and chalking noted. Her hull below the water line was fair as sighted and the bottom paint did have a build up but was well adhered.

Her three blade propeller had considerable barnacle growth but appeared to be serviceable as did the cutlass bearing.

Below deck there is reasonable access to her structural bulkheads and stringers. The application and finish of the bulkheads and cabinets is well done and solid but not to a yacht quality. With that said, there sections of the main bulkheads port and starboard that have new sections apparently replaced do to previous water damage. The work is sound but not finished to match the original.

My overall impression of this vessel is that she was well built and the hull is in good condition. None of the systems were operated and the sails where not inspected because of the sever winter conditions. The owner reports the boat was winterized by the Boat Yard this fall."  ~ Bunnell Marine Consulting Survey November 14, 2019 Inspection

Value of Vessel as Seen

"Based upon the replacement cost of hull, machinery and equipment depreciated in accordance with total life and remaining life and taking into consideration the following factors:

  1. Reputation of builder.
  2. The lack of quality used boats in this size range.
  3. Most recent improvements.
  4. Discussion with Yacht Brokers.
  5. Yacht World values.
  6. Comparable listings.

It is my opinion that the fair market value of "NATTY BOH'T" is approximately $10,000. as seen." ~ Bunnell Marine Consulting Survey November 14, 2019 Inspection
