76' Nordhavn 76

Nordhavn 76 Tugnacious was built to cruise the world in luxury with safety and reliability in mind. Redundancy plays a key role in all systems onboard Tugnacious, with many systems having triple redundancy. With the original owner being a lifelong blue water mariner, nothing was overlooked in the build process. The moment you walk in the aft salon door you really get a feel of the open and airy spaces aboard Tugnacious. Her machinery spaces were spec’d to be reliable and redundant, especially with the John Deere main engine, John Deere wing engine and the addition of a third Northern Lights generator. The navigation equipment also has many redundancies and is what you would expect to see on any expedition yacht. Many of the navigation systems have been upgraded over the years since Tugnacious was first launched. Tugnacious has proven herself to be safe and reliable year after year with trips up and down the east coast, to the Dominican Republic and as far east as Bermuda.

Specifications

Salon

The main salon is open and airy with great visibility all around and is protected by the new FRP watertight doors. These new Ta Shing FRP made doors will not corrode and the paint will not bubble as the previous aluminum doors would do every so often, so this is a practical upgrade. The finished wood is African cherry wood, with furniture pieces made of Italian Charco wood and maple. This combination of wood is truly amazing and has won several interior design awards in the past. The satin gloss finish and contrasting lighter wall covering tie this style together. The starboard side of the salon has a roomy built in “L” shaped settee covered in Ultraleather. The built-in settee allows for spacious storage below. On the port side there is a gorgeous secured dining table with seating for six. The TV is a on a lift and will rise from the cabinetry and is hidden away when not needed. The general feel of the salon is warm and relaxing, the colors all go very well together and the overhead cherry wood accents and wall sconces add to the cozy feel.

Galley

The galley of Tugnacious is a gourmet chef’s dream. Top-off-the-line appliances, ample counterspace to prep meals and an abundant amount of storage. The salon is open to the galley, so the chef behind the counter can always be involved with what is happening in the salon. The countertop is one level with three barstools making for a great dining or entertaining location. Within the galley there are top-of-the-line Miele appliances and dual GE Monogram refrigerator/freezers. The backsplash above the cooktop is equipped with a pot filler faucet which is such a practical option and allows for efficient filling of larger pots and pans. The galley storage has been very well thought out with pantry space, overhead storage and lockers on both the forward and aft sides of the peninsula countertop. If you’re a coffee drinker you will love the coffee station located on the port side of the galley. This coffee station is equipped with a Miele whole bean system that is pre-plumbed to fresh water. Below this is a Miele warming drawer to keep the coffee mugs warm. Below the warming drawer there is a small drinks fridge for milk and creamer. The drawer storage in this area has custom fitted acrylic cup and mug holders built in.

Master Stateroom

The master stateroom of Tugnacious is finished in a rich satin gloss African cherry wood, Italian Charco wood and maple with the lighter wall covering tying it all together. The full beam design creates a spacious and roomy stateroom. The hanging locker and drawer storage in this stateroom was well thought out, with multiple hanging lockers and several banks of drawers. There is more storage here than you would find in most homes. Tugnacious has a large walk-in closet on the starboard side - it’s not often you see this on a 76 foot yacht. The vanity area on the starboard side is equipped with a lighted mirror as well as a VHF radio and Furuno instrument panel so the operator can stay in touch with what is going on. The master stateroom of Tugnacious is equipped with a king size berth as well as large oversized fixed port lights and opening overhead hatches allowing for good natural light as well as ventilation. The master head is quite spacious with plenty of storage, his and her sinks, a large walk-in shower lined with tumbled travertine tiles, and a separate private toilet area. Heated tile floors and heated towel bars were added during the build of the vessel.

Guest Cabins

Two of the guest cabins onboard Tugnacious are downstairs, and each have their own individual en-suite heads. The VIP guest cabin is equipped with a queen berth that has built-in drawer storage below. There is a vanity area forward in the cabin, hanging locker storage and ample drawer storage. The head is located aft and is also equipped with a heated tile floor and heated towel bar. Guests aboard Tugnacious are definitely treated to a luxurious experience. The second guest cabin is equipped with over/under twin berths and ample drawer storage and hanging locker storage. The head is forward and is also equipped with heated tile flooring and heated towel bars. Both cabins are lined with the same wood selections and wall coverings as the rest of the vessel. Fixed portlights in each guest cabin allow for ample natural light and fresh air blowers make for great ventilation.

Utility Room

On the lower level there is a utility room equipped with a full size washer and dryer units, a Hafale folding ironing board and two Uline front loading freezers. Aft of the laundry room thru a PCM watertight door is access to the engine room.

Pilothouse

Up an African cherry wood lined circular staircase from the salon is access to the pilothouse and pilothouse cabin. The wheelhouse dash on Tugnacious is like that of a cruise ship or a 200 foot superyacht. The systems and dash layout were tirelessly thought out, with nothing left untouched or left out. Important components are all there at the operator’s fingertips. The touch screen monitors and up-to-date systems allow for the safe operation of the vessel. Two comfortable Stidd helm chairs allow the operator and guest to oversee all aspects of the vessel from the wheelhouse. The “U” shaped settee aft of the helm is a wonderful place for guest to congregate. This area is raised up allowing guests to see dash and out the forward facing windows. There is a two-piece Italian Charco wood table for dining. You will find that while underway this is a popular place to be. The wheelhouse is equipped with a captain’s station, which has a large desk area set up for a computer, printer, file storage and manuals storage.

Pilothouse Cabin

Aft of the pilothouse settee is the pilothouse cabin, which doubles as a guest cabin or a captain’s cabin. There is an en-suite head that can also serve as a day head for this area. The cabin is equipped with two twin bunks that can slide together to be a full-size bunk. This cabin is perfect for a couple that is crew or two single persons.

Exterior

Starting in the cockpit area there is a large built-in FRP settee with brand new cushions, and storage below the settee. The settee is equipped with a beautiful 3-piece high glass teak table, that has custom covers to protect it from the elements. The deck is covered with teak decking. Nordhavn does not use any fasteners in their teaking so this will last for years to come. There is a control station in the aft starboard corner of the settee and this is an ideal location to operate the vessel in tight spots. Forward there is a BBQ console with the BBQ and sink under a hinged FRP top, and storage below. Tugnacious is the walk around version, which means there are walkways on both the port and starboard sides. The port side walkway allows for easy docking on this side and leads to a useful wet locker forward. The starboard side walkway leads to the foredeck and both sides do have boarding doors to the dock.

The aft swimstep has been extended by 18" making this a large, usable space. This is a perfect deck for dive gear, etc. Access to a hot/cold fresh water shower and to the shore power are on the swimstep of Tugnacious. The shore power cord is on electric Glendinning reels. The “U” shape rails are great for safety and there is a custom swimstep ladder built in. The Besenzoni retractable gangway is located on the port side, and extends from the transom about 13 feet and has up and down movement. It’s basically brand new as it has never been used.

The foredeck is vast and very useable. Currently there is a 17 foot Rigid tender onboard. There is room for a second tender on the starboard side. This is launched and retrieved by the Steelhead 2500# telescoping davit. The anchor well is equipped with two Maxwell VWC 4500 hydraulic windlasses with band brakes and chain stoppers. There is 400 feet of 1/2" galvanized high test chain on each side. Access to the anchor locker is through two Freeman aluminum watertight deck hatches.

Aft of the foredeck through a robust pantograph hinged door is the Portuguese bridge area. This is a well-protected area and is great for operating the vessel or for getting fresh air while underway. Both the port and starboard sides have control stations. These stations are equipped with engine controls, engine start/stop panels, horn control, thruster controls and rudder follow up levers. Each side of the Portuguese bridge has access doors leading into the pilothouse. These are Dutch doors and are watertight.

Aft of the pilothouse is the aft deck. In the build the aft deck was extended 7 feet which makes for a truly amazing space. There is a built-in settee with an FRP table, with storage below. Then aft is plenty of open space and would be an ideal location for four or five lounge chairs. The two 8-man liferafts are mounted on the side handrails so they are usable but out of the way.

The flybridge is accessed through a teak wood staircase in the wheelhouse. The flybridge on Tugnacious is equipped with a single Stidd helm chair with cover. There is a “U” shaped settee to the starboard side with a high gloss 3-piece teak table. Forward below a sliding FRP cover are the electronics and navigation equipment. This dash can do everything that can be done down below in the wheelhouse. Aft of the flybridge is the sundeck, which is another area that is perfect for lounge chairs and sun seekers. There is a custom stainless steel and teak ladder allowing for easier access to the FRP hardtop.

Machinery

There are several machinery spaces on the Nordhavn 76 Tugnacious. Starting forward there is the bow thruster compartment which includes portions of the hydraulic system, the davit motor, bilge pumps, access to tankage and a Seafire fire extinguishing system. Moving aft we have the engine room and lazarette.

We will begin in the engine room which is equipped with a John Deere 6135 500hp main engine, a John 4045 140hp wing engine and a Northern Lights 38kw generator. The main engine and wing engine are both equipped with hydraulic PTOs allowing both to control the ABT hydraulic system. Tugnacious is a full hydraulic vessel, including crash pumps, anchor wash pump, 50hp bow thruster, 38hp stern thruster and the stabilizers. This is an extremely reliable and robust system for this type of vessel. The single engine layout allows for a stainless steel work bench with hinged top, and two Snap On tool chests are mounted below. This is a great use of space and really allows a mechanic room to work. The main and back-up fresh water pumps, water heater, UV sterilizer and manifold system have all been relocated to the engine room which makes all of these components much easier to access and monitor. The owner of Tugnacious has a lifelong background with ocean going vessels and the layout of the machinery spaces shows his expertise. The living spaces are protected from the machinery spaces by watertight bulkheads and watertight doors. All machinery spaces are equipped with Seafire auto/manual fire extinguisher systems. These areas have two exits as well for an extra level of safety.

Aft of the engine room is the lazarette. This space is accessible through a watertight door in the engine room or through the two deck hatches in the cockpit. The lazarette on Tugnacious houses two Northern Lights generators, one is a 25kw unit and the other is a 16kw unit. It also houses the many other electrical components such as all the batteries and battery switch gear, Victron inverters and Victron battery chargers as well as the 25Kva ASEA shore power converter. The ASEA shore power converter will allow the vessel to plug into shore power in 50hz environments which truly allows for Tugnacious to cruise anywhere in the world. The tempered water CruisAir HVAC system is located in this area and is quite easy to access. The lazarette is a great place for storage too, and can fit anything from folding bikes, golf clubs to many bins of spare parts, and the deck hatches allow for easy access to this area with larger items.

The Nordhavn 76 Tugnacious is ready for new adventures. The current owner has maintained the vessel with an open checkbook. Nothing has been overlooked, and redundancy and safety played a key roll in the design of Tugnacious. This vessel is truly ready to go anywhere in the world, just add fuel and be on your way.

An excerpt from Nordhavn.com:

“With popularity of the “northwest trawler”-style boat on the rise, PAE set out to create a new, big modern passagemaker that fused this salty look with the advanced systems of the latest Nordhavns. The result was the Nordhavn 76: developed for those yachtsmen who want an aft pilothouse boat which carries its shore boats on the foredeck. Like our venerable Nordhavn 62, the pilothouse of the N76 is set aft, carries its crane forward and can launch its shore boats off either the port or starboard side. Based on the hull form and specifications of the N72, the simple goal of this new model was to create a small superyacht which was true to the rugged ocean going heritage of other Nordhavns while at the same time stunning in her elegance, fit and finish, systems and engineering.

The boat was taken from drawing board to factory seamlessly through the efforts of Naval Architect Jeff Leishman, along with the design and engineering team at PAE, and the Taiwanese builders at our partner factory, Ta Shing. The final product has exceeded everyone’s goals.”
