74' Hatteras 74 Sport Deck Motor Yacht

TUFF LIFE IV was built and delivered by Hatteras yachts in 2000 and refit in 2022. This 74’ sport deck motor yacht can accommodate up to 10 guests in 5 staterooms.

Overview

TUFF LIFE IV is The second-to-last Hatteras 74 Sport Deck Motor Yachts built before the transition to the 75. She has been extensively upgraded on the exterior and interior. A custom hardtop was added while a complete exterior paint job was being performed, including the replacement of portlights and hatches with polished stainless steel units and the addition of an extended swim platform. This 74 has a 5-stateroom layout with new hard flooring and upgraded wall coverings. The original dinette to starboard has been changed to create a full-beam galley with additional storage and refrigeration contained in matched cabinetry. TUFF LIFE IV is very easy to run short-handed and is capable of high cruise speeds in the low 20s or efficiently cruised at just over 11 knots burning around 20 gallons per hour, total, thanks to her Caterpillar 3412s, while towing a very large tender.

Notable Upgrades

Salon

The Salon’s new flooring, Phillip Jeffries wall covering, and furniture give this open space a fresh, modern feeling. A large, sliding door opens to the aft deck and forward is a dining area and expansive galley. The new pop-up Samsung smart TV is viewable from the salon and dining area.

Dinette

Galley

Forward of the dining area is the full-beam galley. The original dinette on the starboard side was removed and replaced with custom matching cabinetry. This provides a tremendous amount more storage and contains a wine refrigerator and additional “wet” ice maker. To port is a full complement of updated KitchenAid Architect Series appliances and a large sink with disposal.

Owner Stateroom

Down the stairs from the salon is a hallway leading to the engine room, aft bunk room and the very spacious Owner Stateroom. A king-sized bed is centerline, flanked by nightstands with drawers. To port and starboard are built-in chests of drawers and forward to port is a walk-in closet. The ensuite head is forward to starboard.

Forward Lower Foyer

Down curved steps from the Pilothouse is the forward lower foyer. It provides shared access to the bow stateroom head, bow stateroom, forward bunk stateroom, VIP stateroom, full-sized GE Profile front load washer and dryer, and generator room through a floor hatch.

VIP Stateroom

Through the forward companionway and aft, the VIP stateroom is located just forward of the engine room. A large portlight is on the port side over a built-in chest of drawers, just outboard of a walk-around queen-sized bed flanked by nightstands. A spacious head is on the starboard side and includes a jacuzzi tub with shower.

Bow Stateroom

Down the stairs and forward from the forward, lower foyer is the bow stateroom. Beneath a large, stainless steel hatch is the queen-sized berth, surrounded by multiple shelves, storage compartments, drawers and a hanging closet. The ensuite head has a hatch in the ceiling, providing natural light.

Forward Bunk Stateroom

The forward bunk stateroom has spacious over/under bunks and an ensuite head. It is located at the base of the forward companionway and makes a great room for guests or crew.

Aft Bunk Stateroom

The aft bunk stateroom has 2 bunks. The top is a pullman. This room can be used as a huge supply closet when on extended voyages.

Pilothouse

Port and starboard doors to the side decks are part of what makes this Hatteras so easy to operate short-handed. A cleat is located just outside, so the captain can easily loop a piling when approaching side-to. The pocket door to the Galley is aft on the starboard side and provides a view to both aft corners of the boat as well as forward while in control of the gear levers. A full suite of electronics and a comfortable helm bench make long voyages enjoyable. The companionway to the forward staterooms is down the starboard side.

Flybridge

Up the stairs from the pilothouse is the expansive flybridge and boat deck. Sightlines are fantastic from the upper helm and the boat deck is larger than most vessels of similar size. The key-shaped bar is surrounded by stools and twin L-shaped seating areas are found to port and starboard. A hardtop was added when the boat was painted.

Sport Deck

The sport deck acts as a semi-cockpit and provides great access to a huge storage compartment through doors in the transom, a protected area for line handling, easy access to the water for water sports and/or tender accessibility and finally, unequaled area for tow-line handling when towing a tender.

Aft Deck

The covered aft deck access from the salon is through a very sturdy sliding door with large windows on either side.  An upgraded Isotherm Stainless Steel refrigerator, sink and storage are on the starboard side and a 6-person table with aluminum and mesh chairs are great for dining. Stairs on the starboard side lead down to the sport deck.

Engine Room

The engine room is full-beam and can be entered from the VIP Stateroom or aft stateroom foyer. Space is available to access all sides of the Caterpillar 3412s. Delta T demisters were added to keep this space even cleaner and salt-free.

Generator Room

Foredeck

The foredeck can be accessed through port or starboard pilothouse doors and sidedecks. Stainless steel railings with gates run forward and around the anchor pulpit. To port and starboard are Glendinning Cablemaster retractors for the 50amp shore power cords. A tanning pad is on the cabin top and bench seating is forward of that, with line storage beneath. They are covered with Sunbrella, matching the flybridge seating. Large cleats are located outside of the port and starboard Pilothouse doors and forward are two more with fairleads. A Maxwell hydraulic windlass with a chain-to-rope wildcat feeds the anchor pulpit. 30 amp power outlets are on the port and starboard sides for tender plug-in.
